Hi, I'm Leona!

Animals have been a constant in my life with a brief exception when I went away to college. My family and I have raised horses, chickens, guinea pigs, lots of cats and some very memorable dogs. We rescued Loki (pictured with me above) from the Dane County Humane Society shortly after I started high school. Loki was a very anxious pup when he first came home with us—he had been returned to the Humane Society twice for destructive chewing. After a year of crating, training and very long walks, runs and bike rides, Loki could be trusted to be left at home uncrated during the school/work day with no destructive behavior, unfailingly! Not long after, I was able to train him to take off-leash hikes with me in the country (a pup after my own heart!).

Growing up, I always thought I would be a vet... until I shadowed a local veterinarian when I was in the 6th grade and quickly learned it was not the right career path for me. So instead, I worked in stables where we boarded our horse and pony, and I took care of friends' animals while they were out of town. I worked for a dog-walking and pet-sitting company and am currently a volunteer at the Dane County Humane Society.

I am so excited to be a part of the Dog Face team and am looking forward to helping you and your dog connect and have tons of fun in our next class together!
